Skimming and scanning are English's expressions which means read superficially and read quickly respectively. These techniques can help the reader to obtain more quickly the information from the book, newspaper, magazine, websites, don't being necessary to read each word of their context. / Skimming e scanning são expressões do inglês que significam ler superficialmente e ler rapidamente, respectivamente. Essas técnicas podem ajudar o leitor a obter mais rapidamente a informação de um livro, jornal, revista, website, não sendo necessário ler cada palavra contida em seu contexto.
There are many kinds of reading, its a wide world in front of us. In almost everything that we are going to do we face the need to read. For each kind of reading we have one different way to read. For example, we have newspaper and magazine, which has, most of the time, different goals for reading it. And the Books? We have all kind of reading came from the books, and one technique for each of them. / Existem muitos tipos de leitura, esse é um mundo amplo diante de nós. Em quase todas as coisas que fazemos, deparamo-nos com a necessidade da leitura. Para cada tipo de leitura, temos diferentes maneiras de realizá-la. Por exemplo, temos o jornal e a revista que têm, na maioria das vezes, objetivos diferentes para sua leitura. E os livros? Temos todo o tipo de leitura nos livros, e uma técnica para cada uma delas.
The technique that you'll use for your reading will be choose by your need for the goal that you have. For example, if you are reading for work, for College, for school or for pleasure, what are you waiting for this book? What are your needs? You are reading just for obtain information, to do some exercises, or just for fun? Scanning and skimming are different kinds of reading if you want just know a specific information, you must use the scanning for a specific word, on the other hand, if you are exploring, rereading or reviewing a text or a document you must use the skimming. / A técnica que você usará para realizar a leitura deverá ser escolhida de acordo com o objetivo que você possui. Por exemplo, se você está lendo algo para o trabalho, para a Universidade, para a escola ou por prazer, o que você espera desse livro? Quais são suas necessidades? Você está lendo apenas para obter informação, para fazer algum exercício ou apenas por diversão? Scanning e skimming são diferentes tipos de leitura. Se você deseja saber sobre uma informação específica, você precisa usar o scanning para uma palavra específica; por outro lado, se você está explorando, relendo ou revendo um texto ou um documento, você deve usar o skimming.
A good text's comprehension depend on the reader capability of make interferences, deduction, liking ideas and identify words in the text that shows some idea, so, the reader has to be a grammar and linguistic knowledge to do the best reading and for full comprehension of the ideas express in the text. Read well is an exercise that you can practice everyday! / Uma boa compreensão de texto depende da capacidade do leitor de fazer interveniências, deduções, ligar as ideias e identificar as palavras no texto que mostram alguma ideia, ou seja, o leitor precisa ter um conhecimento de gramática e linguística para fazer a melhor leitura e ter uma compreensão geral das ideias expressas no texto. Ler bem é um exercício que você pode praticar todos os dias!
Scanning – Leitura específica
This technique helps the reader obtain information from the text without need reading all text. It is a quick preview of the text, you just read the information contained in that space. You do the scanning moving your eyes from up to down and vice-verse, looking for the main words, or specific phrases or key words, etc. When you are doing the scanning pay attention to the punctuations of the author, such us, marks with numbers, letters, asterisk, etc. Look for underlined word, words in bold, in italic, different sizes of letters or words. This process is useful, like already said, for whom wants to find specific information, such as, a name, a date of birth, a phone number in a list, a word in a dictionary and so on. After doing that you pass for the next stage: The skimming. / Essa técnica ajuda o leitor a obter informação de um texto sem precisar lê-lo todo. É uma rápida visualização do texto, você lê apenas a informação contida naquele espaço. Você realiza essa leitura (scanning) movendo seus olhos para cima e para baixo e vice-versa, procurando as principais palavras, sentenças específicas, palavras-chave etc. Quando você está fazendo o scanning, preste atenção nas pontuações feitas pelo autor, como marcações com números, letras, asterisco etc. Procure por palavras sublinhadas, palavras em negrito e itálico, bem como diferentes tamanhos de letras ou palavras. Esse processo é muito útil, como já mencionado, para quem deseja achar uma informação específica, como um nome, uma data de nascimento, um número de telefone em uma lista, uma palavra em um dicionário e assim por diante. Depois de fazer essa leitura, passe para a próxima etapa: O skimming.
Skimming – Leitura Rápida
The skimming allows the reader identify quickly the main idea of the text. It 's more embracing than scanning, and the reader need to has more knowledge about the text organization, perception of the vocabulary, ability to infer, decode, understand and interpret the ideas of the text. The skimming is more use when you have a lot of things to read and not much time, so this is a technique that helps a lot, because with it the reading is made with the speed three to four times higher than a normal reading. / A leitura rápida (skimming) permite ao leitor identificar rapidamente a ideia principal do texto. Ela é mais abrangente do que a scanning, e o leitor precisa ter mais conhecimentos sobre a organização do texto, percepção do vocabulário e habilidades para inferir, decodificar, compreender e interpretar as ideias do texto. O skimming é mais usado quando você tem várias coisas para ler e não tem muito tempo para isso. Com essa técnica, uma leitura é feita com três a quatro vezes mais velocidade do que em uma leitura normal.
One of the function of this technique is detach aspects from the text. From this part on, the reading can be a little more complex, you can need for information about some person or some subject. This type of reading requires attention and carefulness to make the right punctuations and don't get lost in the middle of the ideas from the text, just as well, don't found the wrong information. / Uma das funções dessa técnica é destacar aspectos do texto. Dessa parte em diante, a leitura pode ser um pouco mais complexa, pois você pode precisar de informações sobre uma pessoa ou um assunto. Esse tipo de leitura requer atenção e cuidado para fazer as pontuações certas e não se perder no meio das ideias do texto e, assim, encontrar a informação errada.
An important thing to do in this reading in find out the subject of the text (the context), and then the verb and if there is a direct object. When you identify the subject all the things that following become easy to understand. It make you discover the main function of the text and not the hole idea. You don't need to worry about the details of the text, just keep your focus on the mainly and specific thing that you need, the information you are looking for, reading the title and the subtitle, the first and the last paragraph to reach your ultimate goal. / Uma coisa importante a se fazer nessa leitura é encontrar o sujeito do texto (do contexto) e então encontrar o verbo e se há um objeto direto. Quando você identifica o sujeito, todas as coisas que se seguem se tornam mais fáceis de se entender. Isso faz com que você descubra a função principal do texto e não a ideia geral. Você não precisa se preocupar com os detalhes do texto, apenas continue focado nas coisas principais que você precisa, as informações que está procurando, lendo o título e subtítulos, primeiros e últimos parágrafos para chegar ao seu objetivo final.
